Prologue

Four years ago, while watching the 2019 Rugby World Cup on television I thought to myself "If I had thought about this sooner, I could have gone to Japan and seen some of it in person." And thus the dream was born.

Before the 2019 tournament was even over, I checked to see where the 2023 Rugby World Cup would be. France. (I was hoping for Australia or New Zealand.) While France wasn't on my list of countries I'd always wanted to see, it was certainly not a deal-breaker. So in about October 2019 I decided that I would go to France for the World Cup. 

As I write this, I'm in a hotel room in Bordeaux, having attended three matches so far. I've had a bunch of people express interest in knowing what I'm up to while I'm here, so rather than try to remember to keep everyone current via various channels, I've decided to write it all down in blog format.

In coming posts, I'll catch y'all up on what has happened so far, and I'll do my best to stay mostly current with each day's news.
