Match 18 -- New Zealand v. Uruguay

Thursday, 05 October 2023

My 18th match, and the 33rd of the tournament, was New Zealand v. Uruguay in Lyon.

The second of two Metro lines I took on the way to the stadium was both congested and delayed.  It took longer than expected, but I got to my seat with about 20 minutes to spare. Another really good seat. High up, for a good view, with the aisle on my left so I can straighten my leg when needed.

The match was scoreless through 19+ minutes, which I think surprised just about everyone. There were three tries in those 19 minutes that were overturned upon video review. (Two by New Zealand and one by Uruguay.) But once New Zealand scored, they didn't slow down, taking a 26-0 lead into halftime.

And they didn't slow down in the second half either, adding 47 more points. Final score: 73-0.

Leaving the stadium I decided to try the bus shuttle instead of the tram shuttle. It was nicer. No wait to get on it, not as warm or crowded, and it got me to the same Metro stop that the tram would have. Then two Metro lines to the stop nearest the hotel. I walked about half-way from there to the hotel, then picked up a Dott scooter for the last half mile or so, including the beast of a hill at the end. It was only managing about 6.5 km/h up the hill, but that's still faster than I would have been walking.

  1. Maybe in your "free" time you can sign on to the "dott" crew and recharge the scooters. Love you, Mom and Dad

  2. Don't think I didn't check. :-) They use employees, not independent contractors.
